“Hydrilla” is an abstracted impression of the thick and suffocating invasive plant in the Finger Lake’s water ways. As an avid hiker and outdoors traveler, illustrating special landscapes preserve memories of environments I have had the pleasure of exploring and existing harmoniously in. In this case this invasive species was taking over the ponds, creeks and lakes. Covering the surface of the water so that other flora couldn’t reach the sunlight as well as make it difficult for fauna to swim or rest in the water as it would entangle them. It was so sad to see the fast moving pace of humans spreading invasive plants around the beautiful ecosystems that I grew up immersed in.
