Oil on Wooden Panel in White-brushed Wood Frame

This painting tested me as much as the past relationship it represents did.

Through painting I processed this past toxic fester of a relationship with another and their staged reality. With each smear of pigment, I reflected upon the mess driven by secrets and pain they chose to hide even from themselves. A mess they asked me to accept.

As light and space were defined in this painting, the hidden space I was being kept in by this person came to light too. It was then that I realized that this experience and painting was not about the other person, but my relationship with myself.

The tension and layered mess of this painting is the visual history of one’s choice of facing oneself. Not until one does, may one have healthy and truthful relationship with themselves and others. This act is not isolated, yet is explored continuously through one’s left as they explore, learn, grow and transform. Just as each painting I set up, explore and accept moving on to the next.

“Front Door Departure”

Finger-painted

Oil Paint on Wood Panel

Through this therapeutic Art piece a rich figure emerges from a door frame into a lush and vibrant foliage. With the wind blowing through her thick curls it is revealed that the figure is indeed the Artist, Anna Pausch. She is departing from a gaslit, manipulative and emotionally abusive “partner’s” home. Stepping into her sacred, nurturing grounding home of Nature and the Natural world.

Indeed this piece did begin during the relationship as a way of releasing sadness and anger with their “partner”. Painted on Wood Panel with the intent of no resulting painting. All of the inflicted pain was scratched and smashed onto its surface. Until the Artist saw herself emerging from the paint. Realizing that she has been the focus of importance all along, her anger and pain healed as she focused on the love and power of herself.

“Front Door Departure” is the gateway piece for the Artist putting herself in the spotlight and not hidden as she was in her “relationship.” Boldness took off bringing power and love to herself, her career and studio practice.
